2020 – The Year I Returned to Film

A few weeks ago I posted a link to my best of 2020 gallery.  Thing is, that wasn’t everything.  It was the best of my digital work.  I didn’t include any of the film work this year.  If you’ve been reading here for a while then you know this was the year I had the old Petri 2.8 my uncle gave me refurbished and started shooting film again.  No need to rehash that, you can follow the journey by clicking the “Back to Film” tab in the menu above.

But I did want to corral the year’s best images in film.  A year of sorting out unfamiliar films in an era where the Plus X I used to shoot is no more, finding old rolls of film and experimenting, re-learning the camera of my youth and simply re-acquainting myself with analog.  The images perhaps aren’t as strong as the digital gallery, nor does it has the depth, but film is hard.  That is why it is worth doing.

I intend to keep up a steady stream of image making in both digital and analog formats next year.  I also may address my biggest disappointment with my return to film, the short comings of the scanner I acquired.  I also may dream big…I still have my enlarger, timer and development trays.  I have the location scouted out for a darkroom, I just need to clean and empty the space.  I have been experimenting with coding my programmable LED aquarium light to only throw 600nm light.  Not sure how the fish will feel about this but it will serve the purpose!

Anyway, below is the slide show for the year in film 2020, a new start for an old passion and skill.
